Swedish director Roy Andersson is now on Flim! Four of his six movies have been added to the database: About Endlessness (2019) and his films from his internationally critically successful "living trilogy": Songs from the Second Floor (2000), You, the Living (2007) and A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (2014).

Roy Andersson released his first feature-length film, A Swedish Love Story, in 1970 which won four awards at the 20th Berlin International Film Festival that same year. His second film, Giliap, was released in 1975. For the next 25 years, Andersson primarily focused on his commercial work and in 1981 he founded his own company and independent film studio, Studio 24.

With Songs from the Second Floor (2000), a social critique made up of 46 long shots, Andersson established his personal style characterized by long takes filmed as tableaux vivants, featuring both gloomy and comical characters, raw and burlesque, still shots that combine poetry and darkness. Songs from the Second Floor won the Jury Prize at Cannes and five Guldbagge Awards in Sweden.

In his next films, Roy Andersson keeps this artificial and sophisticated style to highlight humanity, his favorite subject, both beautiful and raw.

You, the Living premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence won the Golden Lion award at 71st Venice International Film Festival in 2014, making him the only Swedish director to win the award.
