TV SERIES
Wednesday, 2022
Wednesday is a new Netflix series produced by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar that premiered in 2022. The show is a coming-of-age dark comedy that follows the life of Wednesday Addams, the iconic and beloved character from the Addams Family franchise. Wednesday creates a world that is both eerie and enchanting, with every detail carefully considered to bring the Addams Family universe to life: from the hauntingly beautiful Nevermore Academy to the gothic-inspired wardrobes and makeup of the characters. The show also features an impressive range of special effects, including displays of psychic abilities and fantastical creatures. The visuals and production design of Wednesday are heavily influenced by the work of acclaimed director Tim Burton. Burton, known for his dark and whimsical visual style, has a long history of creating fantastical worlds filled with eccentric characters, and this influence is clearly felt throughout Wednesday.
The Peripheral, 2022
The Peripheral is a science fiction drama that takes viewers on a thrilling journey through two distinct worlds. The show features a stunning array of visual effects that transport viewers between a futuristic, high-tech world and a more gritty, dystopian landscape. The serie uses holographic technology, which is used to create 3D projections of everything from maps and schematics to video chats and virtual reality environments. Another standout feature of The Peripheral is the contrast between the two worlds depicted in the show. The high-tech world of the future is sleek, modern, and almost utopian in its design, while the dystopian world is characterized by grime, decay, and a sense of desolation. The contrast between these two worlds is striking, and serves to heighten the sense of tension and drama in the show.
Under the Banner of Heaven, 2022
The show Under the Banner of Heaven explores the world of fundamentalist Mormonism and the brutal murders of a young woman and her infant daughter in 1984. The series features a number of stunning visuals and scenes that help to bring the story to life. One of the most notable visuals is the Utah landscape, which serves as a backdrop for much of the show. The sweeping vistas and rugged terrain help to convey the isolation and harshness of the world in which the fundamentalist Mormons live. Another standout visual feature of Under the Banner of Heaven is the attention to detail in the period-specific sets and costumes. From the cars on the road to the clothing worn by the characters, every detail has been carefully considered to create a truly immersive experience from the era.
Angel Cop, 1989
Angel Cop was created by the Japanese animation studio Studio 88 and directed by Ichirô Itano. He is perhaps best known for his work as a director and animator on the classic anime series "Macross" and "Legend of the Galactic Heroes". He is also known for his expertise in creating exciting action sequences, and Angel Cop is no exception. The show's action scenes are among the most memorable and exciting in anime history. Each character is distinct and well-drawn, with a unique look and personality that makes them instantly recognizable. Angel Cop employs a dark and moody color palette, with deep blues and grays dominating the visuals. This creates a sense of tension and foreboding that is perfectly suited to the show's themes of espionage and terrorism. From intense shootouts to hand-to-hand combat, the show is packed with adrenaline-pumping moments that keep the stakes high and the tension mounting.
