Flim's AI manifesto: our approach to generative AI
Flim was built on a simple premise: give creative professionals an endless, searchable archive of cinematic imagery. As generative AI reshaped what's possible in visual research, that premise needed a clear position.
OUR VISION
Flim was founded by a film director and a producer, and has since grown into a team driven by a shared passion for cinema and visual culture. From the outset, our ambition has been to build the most effective tool for visual storytellers.
As generative AI emerged, we chose to incorporate these new capabilities into the platform, in step with the evolving expectations and practices of our users. We see visual generation as part of a broader creative process that begins with inspiration drawn from existing references and the definition of a clear creative direction. For this reason, we believe it is natural for Flim to place generative tools at the very core of its reference library.
To achieve this, we have continuously integrated the most relevant technologies available, including early applications of artificial intelligence, to make our search engine more precise, intuitive, and aligned with creative workflows. This foundation is reflected in our name: Flim.ai.

At Flim, our goal is to support the creative community. We see artificial intelligence as a valuable assistant in the creative process, capable of opening new possibilities and lowering technical barriers for filmmakers and artists. However, we believe technology should enhance human artistry, not replace it.
We stand for a future where creators are both protected and empowered. This manifesto reflects our commitment to balancing technological innovation with ethical responsibility.
1. Enhancing the creative process
We believe in the power of AI to foster human creativity. By assisting creators at various stages of their workflow, from early moodboards to detailed storyboards, these tools can help clarify intent and unlock new visual ideas. Our focus is on pre-production and visual communication, helping ideas come to life faster without replacing the final human craft.
2. Non-commercial use policy
AI-generated images on Flim are not royalty-free. They are governed by the same Terms of Service as the rest of our library, meaning they are permitted only for internal pitches, personal research, or educational purposes.
3. Strict data protection and no-API access
The security of our database is a priority. We do not provide API access to our library for the purpose of training AI models. Our data is not sold or shared for machine learning development, ensuring that our curated content remains protected. External systems never have access to browse, store, or index the Flim database.
4. Advanced search filtering
To ensure full transparency and flexibility, AI-generated media can be easily included or excluded from search results thanks to a dedicated search filter, giving users full control over the references they discover.
5. Respect for artist copyright
If an artist or copyright holder requests that their content be excluded from the platform, we implement that restriction immediately.
6. Safety and content standards
We enforce clear guidelines regarding content generation. Our platform does not permit the creation of deepfakes, images of recognizable individuals, or any form of explicit or harmful material.
We believe technology should empower creators, not erode their agency. We are committed to building tools that expand creative possibilities while protecting the rights and value of artistic work.
